country. The cottage is cosy with welcoming log fires
after a day out. There are modern facilities but the
cottage retains its traditional feel and has a large
attractive garden. The Eskdale Railway and Village Shop
are within 5 minutes walk and there are 4 pubs serving

7 Apartments - This is a large Victorian house which has been converted into seven individual self-catering apartments. Thurston House is situated in a quiet location <b>yet within a couple of minutes walk of the village centre with its shops, public houses, churches and places to eat</b>.
A few minutes walk away is the lake with boats for hire, the Launch and the steam powered Gondola offer trips on the lake. For walkers Coniston Old Man, Tarn Hows, Grizedale forest and the fells are easily accessible from the village.
<b>Coniston, located in the heart of the Lake District National Park</b>, is an ideal centre for walking, sailing and other outdoor pursuits. Many places of interest are to be found nearby including historic houses and sites, museums, and lovely towns and villages.<p>

From Melmerby, where you leave the main road to come to Gamblesby, the road climbs dramatically up the fellside to Hartside viewpoint, 1903 feet above sea level, with spectacular views over the Eden Valley to the mountains of the Lake District and even Southern Scotland.

Our 17th century cottages and apartments lie in an unrivalled location on a working duck/cattle farm, by a stream with ducks. The perfect place to relax and unwind with family and friends. A gentle stroll beside the river takes you to the village inn where good food is served everyday.
This is the ideal base to explore the Lake District with the three hightest mountain peaks in England, Scafell, Skiddaw and Helvellyn, within easy reach. The area boasts many activities available throughout the year including walking, climbing, mountain biking, golf, sailing or fishing. Why not take a trip on the Keswick Launch or stroll around the many parks and gardens.

An excellent touring base for the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, Kirby Lonsdale only 5 miles away. Enjoy the lovely walks around Burton itself. You may see the Wild Deer! Nearby are the Canal, fishery, and a RSPB Leighton Moss Reserve.

From Swallows Nest there are wonderful views over the quiet picturesque Lickle Valley and many pleasant walks. Just a 20 minute stroll is the renowned Blacksmiths Arms serving good food and real ale. Three miles away in the historic market town of Broughton-in-Furness with pubs, cafes shops and a restaurant. Set in nine acres of woodland in the Lake District National Park, Westgate Cottage is a charming detached stone built retreat nestling on the edge of a private development of lodges deep in the heart of the Carmel Valley. The perfect location for relaxing in the tranquility of the Lake District, yet ideally placed for a wealth of activities to enjoy. The Cottage has been tastefully renovated and affords the occupants every modern convenience.
Carmel, famous for its 12th Century Priory, is just 1 mile away, with pubs serving good food as well as the usual shops. A little further afield is Grange over Sands, with its promenade, and the historic market town of Kendal is only a short journey. Bigland Hall nearby, offers activities such as fishing and clay pigeon shooting, in addition there are two golf courses at Grange. One being a Fell course approximately 1.5 miles away and the other in Grange, which is 3 miles away.
The surrounding countryside provides an abundance of hikes for the more energetic visitor, and for those wishing for something a little more staid, there are dozens of sedate walks to choose from, choice is entirely up to you.
